Role and Responsibilities – Band 7 Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP)
Location: Somerset Urgent Treatment Centres
Trust: Somerset Foundation Trust
Band: 7
As a Band 7 Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) working across Somerset’s Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs), you will play a vital role in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. Working autonomously within a multidisciplinary team, you’ll assess, diagnose, treat, and discharge patients presenting with a range of minor injuries and illnesses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Autonomous Clinical Assessment: Undertake comprehensive, evidence-based assessments of patients presenting with minor injuries and illnesses, ensuring accurate diagnoses.
- Treatment & Management: Provide high-quality treatment plans and interventions, including wound care, minor suturing, plastering, and management of soft tissue injuries.
- Prescribing Duties: As an Independent Prescriber, you must be able to prescribe medications in accordance with national and local guidelines.
- Referral & Escalation: Appropriately refer patients to relevant services or escalate to senior clinicians when required.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in line with Trust policies and the NMC Code of Practice.
- Patient Education: Offer clear advice and support to patients regarding self-care, medication use, and follow-up care.
- Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals including doctors, paramedics, and healthcare assistants to ensure seamless care delivery.
- Service Improvement: Contribute to audits, clinical governance initiatives, and continuous service improvement within the UTC setting.
Essential Requirements:
- Valid HCPC or NMC registration
- Postgraduate qualification in Minor Injuries and Minor Illnesses
- Independent Nurse Prescriber
- Proven experience working as an ENP in urgent care or emergency settings
- Excellent clinical decision-making and communication skills
